I do not believe this... I just read it on NME.com and it's WRONG. Radio 1 are going to axe the evening session. THIS IS WRONG. Argh this is gonna make me really mad. Anyway everyone go sign this petition
Petition to save the evening session. Argh stupid stupid radio one, they should be ashamed...
*one hair cut and some calming down later*
Does this make any sense to anyone else? After looking into it I've found that A) steve lamacq (evening session presenter extraordinaire) still has 2 years left on his contract
B) The Evening Session has had more and more listeners every year
C) Dance music (which there is loads of on Radio 1) has been in decline lately, with super clubs shutting down and getting low attendances
D) Alternative music of the type on the Session has only got bigger lately, and more people are listening to it.
Thus I conclude, the BBC, which I love and respect, has gone insane
Radio 1 and an advert for the evening session and coldplay on it. Ironically. Grrrrrr
we've still got mark and lard and jo whiley to bring us good music, but they are horribly tortured by the playlist clerk everytime they play something good...
I still miss Simon Mayo, what am I going to do without lamacq? moving to london to listen to xfm beckons
bahahahah ahahahahahhahahaha radio one is rubbish, rubbish i tell you. though i feel sorry for the guy coz hes been doing it for ages. lets just face it radio, tv, sky, newspapers and magazines blah are all rubbish.
i think ull find it is being replaced with an equally alt music show. or similar. so dont u worry :)
No the worrying thing is that it is being replace by a "more diverse" show. This means that it's going to be more radio 1 playlisty and less alternativey. This is very bad news, I mean think of all the bands that we'd be without if it wasn't for the evening session. They can't get rid of it, I mean it's like firing the only gardener in a award winning national botanical dohicky, or something similar...
So this is what public service broadcasting amounts to, is it? Radio 1 just *don't get it*, and it's us music lovers that have to suffer as a result of their myopic ineptitutde. It's a crime against new music - Lamacq and Peel's shows were the only places you could go on Radio 1 and be guarunteed of hearing good music - there's no reason to listen anymore, full stop. The Sesh is sacrosanct, and this is nothing short of blasphemy. Hopefully Radio 1 will lose another few million listeners, and they'll realise that they don't have any more alternative shows left to turn the axe towards. And i'll dawn on them for the very first time in their live what a bunch of draconian coked-up muppets they truly are. Or so we can hope.
