Go Speed Site Go!

<<< Previous Entry: Battle Monkey Goes Baboom | This Month's entries | Next Entry: Top Five Reasons Why You Should Stop Using Internet Explorer >>

For all those who, whenever they load this lovely site clock how long it takes, you'll have noticed a sudden increase in speed. Because, due to the wonders of Apache, .htaccess files and scripty goddess I'm now semi-zipping all the files on the server, so they still look like the files, and act like the files, but are much smaller.
Joy!
Needless to say this comes in much handiness for iamsparticus.co.uk version 10, which is so massive that it's starting to drag in other parts of this website, in some gravitiational/website style force.

In other news, I played basketball today. Go Me.

Sebooo

Yep - bad coding me thinks ... If it was written by walley - I think its getstring, not sure though..

And why arent u in Iraq fighting for your country Porxie!?

sparticus

Ah it works fine you nonces, I blame stupid internet explorer for incorrectly un-zipping it all and not realising that the php includes a cgi file...
I'll fix it for you though coz I'm nice

Sebooo

what that means in english is
'ohh bugger ive cocked up the code and am using technical terms to baffle you so you think the problem is in hand, but really im hoping it will fix itself'
I do it all the time in work....

Pixxe

well seb you see it is because my unit is linked with the TA and therefor only has reseve status, so if i get called up so does the rest of the country. which means i get sent in before you.

sparticus

Actually it means that I thought that it wouldn't affect the guestbook, but because I'm pretending the guestbook is php when it's a cgi, so I can skin it, then it's been zipped. See cgi shouldn't be zipped because it can mess up, so when I zipped all the html and the php I wasn't sure what the results would be. However Opera handles the fact that it's zipped fine, but clearly MSIE doesn't. So I had to put another rule in to tell it to not zip the contents of the guestbook folder.

Tada!

Hehe you said it twice hehe

Pixxe

and how about insted of talking about it, sort it out.
and y is it only effecting it now?

sparticus

I have sorted it...
And it's only affecting it now, because I only implemented it yesterday evening.

stetler

ok, so how come my silly stupid old IE shows some silly message like this:
Internet Explorer cannot open bla bla bla...
UNSPECIFIED ERROR! Humf!

Pixxe

And how come my AOL only loads up your tool bar and nothing else, doesn't sound fixed to me.

sparticus

A)Because MSIE 5.0 sucks and
B)Because the AOL browser is the worst piece of rubbish for displaying websites ever. Seriously, you're better off reading the source code then drawing a picture of what you think the website should look like than you are using the AOL Browser.
Yes, I am a website snob
Oh but because I'm nice I've edited some stuff and put some nice new stuff in for all the "special" browsers.
Of course you could just upgrade to a proper browser and solve or your problems, but nooo you have to make it hard on poor people designing websites...

Seboo

Actually Ie rules - every1 just likes to slag it off since its part of the microsoft corp. Besides dont blame ie for your bad programming walley - if your knew those files werent going to zip then you shouldnt have done it..... Yehhh that....

Sparticus

I didn't know it was going to break, I thought it would be fine. But y'know MSIE being what it is, it just can't cope.
I'm sure I'll blog later about why it's rubbish seeing as I'm waiting for a bunch of kids to start their computer lesson right now.
