Is it just me, or does everyone under the age of twenty-five use the word couple to describe a small number, ie two or three? I mean when people are talking about a couple as in a relationship, they always mean two people, but when they are talking about a numeric quality certain people always say that couple is two, whereas others take it to be a much looser term. Generally it seems that the younger you are, the looser you use the term. I don't know why, but twenty-five seems to be the dividing line. Odd.

Have you also noticed how guys now can apply to girls as well, within the same age group?
Yeah. But within many more age groups in America (my girlfriend's mum would say "you guys" to my gf and her sister all the time - them all being American)
What you talking about Walley??? A couple is two. Unless you live in Pembrokeshire. That's my observation.
Oh and are you coming to the Barn at New Year?? (That's for both the Walleys)
A couple is more than 1
Odd one this, because it divides me and my wife. I'm 30, and always used 'couple' to mean 'a fairly small number', until my wife, who's younger than me, trained me into using it for 'two'.
Could it be a dialectical thing?
im not really bothered either way
It means 2. Of course, you can use it when understating to mean twenty-seven...
That almost didn't make sense. I had to really think about that one...

Hmm. It's always 2 for me... but then I'm an acknowledged pedant...
