Ambition Makes You Look PrettyUgly

So MovableType have released a new version of their blogging software and I'm sure it's fantastic. However, it is going to cost some cash to get anything more than a basic version (My website currently runs off four different blogs, the free basic version only allows you to have three. A website I was planning would have had 200+ authors, the basic version only lets you have 1).
Understandably there is a big uproar, with people going, "OI!" and "I'm going to change software!" (which makes you wonder why the feel they have to upgrade and not just stay with the present version).
I'm not to bothered, however, it is my understanding that my cousin Matthew was on the Beta and thus may have discount codes he wants to share. :D

once again, the geek comes through

Unfortunately I wasn't. Quote from movabletype.org: "All who submit a completed survey will be allowed to participate in the survey (assuming they provide us with an valid email address)." I completed a form with a valid email address and received no beta.

From what I know I wouldn't have got a discount anyway. And what's a discount of $25 for a price of (minimum) $70, really. :)

Have a look at Wordpress if you really need more authors. PHP too.

Wordpress looks... well... 'sucktastic'. The thing I love about MT (well, one of the things) is that because it makes static pages you can work in the static variables with the dynamic php. You couldn't do that with Wordpress. The way I see it, the fact that it has to be dynamic is a big downside.
My skins code couldn't be done if I used word press, well at least not so elegantly

Fair enough - though the whole rebuild process gives a "spiked" server load which some hosts don't like compared to the constant but smaller server load from a dynamic site. I'm with you though.

Incidently, I just got an email from Six Apart. Seems that even though they never got round to sending me a beta I still count as a beta tester and so I *am* getting discount codes. Six Apart are also reviewing the licenses I believe.

I can't be bothered to upgrade any way. I have far too little free time as it is to fiddle with new tags and stuff. I'm going to wait till I get some time off, then upgrade (if I decide to). Hopefully everything will have sorted itself out by then.

i just got the 'white car' version.

that is all.

I don't need any of the new features to be honest. The Control Panel looks nicer (I've got it running on a localhost server) but to be honest if you're not having problems with comment spam it's not that much better at all.

In the vein of half the blogosphere I've decided that I can't disassociate myself from them totally (I like being unique but not to the extent of completely removing myself) and must comment on the release by Six Apart of
