I'm not sure if I'm a modernist or a post-post-modernist, either way, I'm currently hating post-modernity. Every piece of course work so far I've done has come back with red pen in the margin reading 'this is just your opinion' 'their are other views on this' 'you should look at this from other angles' 'remember other views are equally valuable'. I'm all for backing up arguments and looking at things from a different perspective but it's getting to the point I can't say something like 'assuming bludgeoning people to death in the front of their children is wrong' without getting margins full of 'this is just in your opinion, remember other people may think bludgeoning is a good thing'. To steal an expression off Nick Hornby, "y'know the album, 'The Holy Bible' by the Manic Street Preachers? It's a whole lot better than 'This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours'."

Surely a lot of essays are all about giving your own opinion anyway? Or maybe that's just English. (Final English exam over today! Woo!)
Incidently, I am scarily close to you in the Political Compass thing. In fact, I think I'm you. Or possibly the Dalai Lama, he's close too.
When I went to the Baptist Assembly I heard about three college principals say, with a happy smile, 'we are training people for the post-modern world.' Yuck! Its the new orthodoxy. Just a reminder: PM has made no inroads at all into science, engineering, law and few into history and geography. In fact, you could argue that it has had no impact in any practical area of life. It sucks....
I find the political compass very interesting.
I was almost exactly the same on the left/ right but right on the centre for authoritarian/ libertarian.
What did you get Matthew?
Economic Left/Right: -4.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.33
So I'm identical to Mark on the social scale and slightly more left wing economically.
What did you get, John?
It is a scary thing to be even more radical than the younger generation. My score was -6.12 on the economic left/right, and I'm even more of a libertarian at -1.79. Must dash, have my new mountain bike to try out...
Its been so long ive forgotten what marks mum looks like. In fact i think ive only ever seen her twice. And once was from far away. On a cloudy day. And I hadnt slept much the night before. And my eye was all red from picking at it. And I had a patch over my other eye.
Picking at your eye?
Oh, I got my discount today for MT3. 50% off. You can have it if you want.
Ummm... yes please!
I'm not as radical as my parents! I'm sure there's something wrong with that.
I'm -4.12 towards the left and then -0.46 of a liberal.
Have you noticed that hardly any famous people are in the bottom left hand corner? Odd eh?
Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama and that's it. Indeed strange.
I've got to get my parents to do it. See how they compare...
We did this in a General Studies lesson at school and the entire class, save one, was in the bottom left corner.
It would seem I'm a communist. Economic Left/Right: -6.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.31
Despite reading all of it, I'm still not sure what this test is actually telling me about me...
