John Peel's show used to have a tagline that went something like "playing stuff that you know and you like and playing stuff that you don't know and we think you'll like". I think I've worked out XFM's tagline and it's quite similar "playing stuff that you know and you like and... oh who cares, we can't be bothered, that'll do. Let's just get the songs in the top forty that were made with guitars onto a CD and stick it on shuffle and all head off to the pub".

I find 6 Music to be much more preferable (especially when Domanik Diamond is spouting drivel on XFMscotland)

Shock news: no radio programme is as good as John Peel.

Shock News: Like seeing Nirvana live and reading the bible the whole way through, listening to John Peel is something a lot of people claim they have done and found fantastic and actually haven't done at all. I listened to the man about once or twice a month for two years at the very most and I reckon I probably listened to him more than a lot. John Peel was entertaining and very frequently played great music and did everyone now and again play records at the wrong speed but he also played loads of things that were absolutely terrible. Steve Lamacq always had the better show for music.
