What new mystery is this?
what blessed backwardness?
the Immeasurable One is held and does not resist!
struck by wicked words and foolish fists of senseless men
the Almighty One does not defend!

'A Glass Can Only Spill What It Contains', Mewithoutyou (iTunes)

"But what does it all mean?" asked Susan when they were somewhat calmer. — "It means," said Aslan, "that though the Witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did not know. Her knowledge goes back only to the dawn of Time. But if she could have looked a little further back, into the stillness and the darkness before Time dawned, she would have read there a different incantation. She would have known that when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."

I've been meaning to get hold of some mewithoutYou for ages - which album's the best to start with? (Also, a friend from my course was at the same mewithoutYou gig as you a few months back.)

Mark

Normally I say to people, start with the second album (Catch For Us The Foxes) because it's got more accessible songs on it, but you're a clever man who has good music taste, so start with the last one (Brother, Sister) because it's wonderful and awesome. I haven't heard the first album, but I've heard that you can fairly safely ignore it.

If you're after just one song, I'd either go with the linked one above, or go with Torches Together, off the second album, though last time I looked they had a couple from the second album on the internet free you might want to get first.

Yeah, I'd definitely go with the 2 latest albums. Coming from a more "hard-core" music background, I very much like it, but it is certainly less well done, less refined, less finished (read: rougher)-- not to mention louder-- than their new albums.

As far as songs, the songs they have on their site/myspace/pure volume, etc, are good, as well as Torches Together, and my favorite is Messes of Men.

I've seen this quote or the other one all over the place, granted, they are brilliant. Aaron Weiss is an excellent lyricist. My inspiration when I'm feeling dead in Christ.

What new mystery is this? In overflowing emptiness,
the invisible is seen among the shadow and the mist.
Before my doubting eyes, the infinite appears in time
The unquestionable is questioned but makes no reply!

Where You Take Part

You have two options in expressing yourself publicly on this site. If you have a new fangled blog type website (like this one) you can write what you want to say on your own site and link to this entry. I'll register that you've written something about it and provide a link to it below (this is called a trackback). If you don't have a website or just don't want to waste its time with me then you can add a good old fashioned comment. Fill in the blanks and press go to make your opinion heard among handfuls!

Caveats and the such

A few lines need to be said here. I'm currently a youth worker, therefore I have to watch how I interact with young people. Therefore if you're a young person whom I know through work you need to ask your parents permission to comment on this. That sucks I know, but it gives you something other than voting and drinking to look forward to when you hit eighteen.

All the views expressed here are opinions of whoever wrote them. They also are copyrighted to you under law. However, because you're nice by commenting on this you agree to have your views licensed under whatever creative commons licence this website is.
